Aliens, Robots, Books and Movies
Ok,
I'm alive don't worry. I've been super busy lately (or too lazy to write anything).... But things have been going pretty well lately I guess. I saw a couple more movies:
Superman Returns
Pirates of the Caribbean
Sweet and Lowdown (2000 Woody Allen and Sean Penn flick)
Capote
Capote was absolutely breathtaking. I was very moved and will definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates great acting, storytelling and filmmaking. (Philip Seymour Hoffman deserved that Oscar)
Superman and Pirates weren't awful... But they sure weren't amazing. On some levels they were great. I loved both of em for different reasons... But, they're just fun summer blockbusters without any intention of captivating the audience through either art or intellect. I do recommend them both. But, Pirates Ye Be Warned.... they are both around 3 hours long! Yarrrrrrrg!
I attended a party for all those who participated in the Robot Movie over the 48 hour film festival. I had a great time, watched it on a big screen and got my DVD copy! Finally.... But, Let me know if you wanna see it. I'm not posting it on this site cuz i didn't make and therefore don't have the rights to do so. But I'd be more than happy to show you! It's hilarious!
I'm still reading "Rebel Without a Crew" by Robert Rodriguez... OMG, its my film Bible. He is such a cool guy and has given me such great advice through this book. It has really changed my life as a filmmaker... Wow. awesome.
I am currently writing a short script for a short film I plan on shooting in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to star in it and everything! It's about my internal power struggle in comic form. I will be making fun of my multiple personalities on screen... Hopefully it will show... Who knows. But I fleshed out some sweet ideas today and am very pleased so far. I'll be sure to let you know when I'm in the process of making it.
I bought a cd by the Secret Machines. It's called 10 Silver Drops. It's awful. It has 2 good songs and the rest aren't even worth listening to at all. But, the songs that are good, are REALLY good. But, thats just me. This just goes to show that if you hear a song on 89.3 the Current and you absolutely love it, doesn't mean you should go out and buy the entire album... I made a mistake and will never go about purchasing music like that again. I'm gonna go get my money back.

We Are Scientists, Fiery Furnaces and..... ELVIS COSTELLO!

So, over the last week I've been very very busy. As you know, caricaturing is going strong and I have a pretty great grasp on all its aspects (resemblance, line consistency and of course, the dreaded.... AIRBRUSH.... woof.) It's so much fun and I love every moment. I am so F-ing glad, its nuts. I love it. Anyway, In addition to that, the Hoffman internship is going well. I love that as well, but in a different way. I see it as a necessary stepping stone, but some of the tasks can be tremendously boring. Nevertheless, I'm making some amazing contacts and great friends.
I saw the We Are Scientists/Fiery Furnaces show last Friday. What have I to say? .... Well, I bought a WaS shirt. I Loved WaS' set. It was more rock and roll, whereas FF attempted to open the gates of Hell thru their sound. WELL, thats a bit of a stretch, but their sound WAS unique and I was very entertained. They constantly changed drumbeats, had a female lead singer Linda Blair look-alike with super high white jeans and a thick xenia Warrior Princess bangs. She was pretty hot. lol, so I had a good time. AND got to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest before and betwingst sets.
THEN, days go by, the sun shines, sets, God unleashes a murderous storm upon my Honda civic, i make some cash drawing people, see a few flicks, listen to Paul McCartney and Wings, sleep again, eat something... then, ATTEND..... Elvis Costello!
Yes, yes, yes. The king of awesomeness. Alison, Veronica, Radio Radio, Watching the Detectives Elvis. It was an truly amazing show. He played for 3 hours with his band the Imposters and veteran musician and rock and roll hall of fame inductee Allen Toussaint on the piano! It was such a surprisingly great show. My mom and I bought tickets the day before on kind of a spur of the moment thing.... and that was Awesome. I can't say enough about his amazing show. He played plenty of old stuff and also introduced us to his newest 4 1/2 o/o 5 Allmusic.com album "The River in Reverse". It was truly a great night.

I went rock climbing with Ed and I failed. I didn't quite make it up the rock so to speak... yeah, well, better luck next time...
Well, I'm off to the grandparent's lake Abode for the weekend, have a great 4th of July!

Let the Caricatures Begin
Well, this isn't my work. But, I started my job yesterday as a caricature artist. Yeah. It went well for the most part. I got a pretty good feel for the type of people that I'm going to be working with. It was a great work environment as well... an overall good time. So, I'll be sure to post a few of em as time goes by. Thanks for dropping in!

What have I been Missing???
Well,
As you may or may not have guessed, I watched "The Evil Dead" for the first time tonight. And, as you may or may not have guessed, I Was blown away. Not quite as literally as many of the characters in this cult classic, but in my own little appreciative way. I was mostly just impressed by the immense feeling a terror Sam Raimi and crew puts you in through very simple techniques. The lighting was unbelievable and the music was perfect. There were moments I laughed because instead of inserting a scare, they chose a gag or a transition... I just think it is a very well crafted movie. Especially given the circumstances.... like only a 375,000 Budget! ... Which is next to nothing... and I enjoyed this movie experience far more than Kong King (over 100 Million), Titanic (100 Millions) ... etc.... Viva La Low budget Films! So, now I'm going to go out and watch Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
I start caricaturing tomorrow. Wish me luck!

48 Hr Film Fest
Wow, is all I have to say. 3 hours of sleep on Friday night, filming for 16 hours on Saturday... Watching a Robot hump the Weisner Museum, an ATM and many other things.... It was a great time. I made some good friends and had alot of fun.
The premier was Tuesday night. It went very well. There were some really crappy films and a few that just blew me away. It was very inspiring.
I have been working at Hoffman for the past couple of weeks. It has been amazing. I have learned so much... its just nuts.
Last night I went to help Sam and Jason with their stunt-people. I watched a participated in the wire/rope rigging. We'll be doing alot of that on the upcoming film shoot. It's gonna be a kung-foo style action flick. They might even put me in charge of some of the stunt stuff. I'm really excited, its gonna be amazing.

Welcome to the Machine
Hello my Friends,
I just entered the corporate world. I am currently writing you from my brand new computer, in my brand new cubicle of my brand new job. I started an internship at Hoffman Communications yesterday as the Production Intern. They are a media and video production company. They create, execute and produce big time company events, videos and other things like that.
My first day was pretty dece. I met like 75 people and remembered maybe 2 names. I'm the only intern, so it feels like starting middle school all over again. You walk into lunch, look around while concentrating on your stride and the texture of your brown paper lunch bag. You're so completely paranoid that you think everybody around you is looking and gossiping about you. Well, it wasn't to that extreme, but you get the idea. Everybody was really nice and it was a great first day. I spent most of it witnessing a Spanish dub of a Dairy Queen training video at a recording studio in Mpls. Today I get to reorganize their video library. Yay!
Tonight I go to Cuzzy's again... We have another 48-hour film festival meeting. We'll see how that goes. I'll be sure to inform you of my experience.
